All The Video Games Coming Out In April 2017

Hi people, march is officially over, and what an amazing month it was for video games. April is shaping up to be yet another power-house. Some incredible titles, including the long-awaited indie platformer Yooka-Laylee and the absolutely splendid Persona 5 finally launch.

There's a lot here, and I haven't followed each of these games, but here are the ones I'm most excited about:

Persona 5 is the return of one of the best JRPG franchises out there, and I've already poured many hours into the game. It's every bit as good as the reviews say it is. Even if you're a newcomer to the series, you'll find much to love. Clocking in at over 100 hours, the game is enough to keep you busy all month, assuming you're not still trying to finish some of last month's huge titles.

Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap is a remake of one of my favorite games of all time, Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap. New hand-drawn graphics and a playable female character along with plenty of other cool features make this action-rpg-platformer classic from the Sega Master System days much more than merely a nostalgic treat. It's been over twenty years since I played the original. I can't wait.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is really just more of the same, but I don't care. The first time the game launched on Wii U it was superb, one of the best racing games ever made. Now it's launching on the Switch with an actual battle mode and some new racers, plus all the DLC. What's not to love?

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn Of War III is the third in the critically acclaimed real-time-strategy franchise. While I'd still love to see an actual Warhammer miniatures game translated to video game format, that's probably never going to happen. The Dawn of War games may be the closest we ever come to that. This one looks quite good.

Yooka-Laylee is a new platformer that's inspired by the classic Banjo-Kazooie games, and developed by many industry veterans. While it's been mired in some controversy lately, that shouldn't impact the quality of the game. I've played some of the game already, and I'm excited to play more.

Honestly, quite a few of these games look great, from the indie sci-fi racer Aaero to the Dragon Quest Builders-esque Portal Knights to the scary looking Outlast 2. It may not be quite as big a month for video games as March, but there's still something for everyone here.
